Aviva Rebecca (Rivka) Monasch Fuhrman

Copied from the e-mail that was sent (Friday, August 2nd) to announce the birth of our wonderful (yes, we're partial - as we should be!) daughter Aviva.

Dear All,
Aviva joined us on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 7lbs 2oz and 20 inches. She is absolutely gorgeous and is already showing quite a personality. She makes faces and is a serious squirmer (the only thing that stopped her from rolling over that first night was the edge of the bassinet - I looked up to see her more or less face planted on the plastic). She's also definitely a cuddler, something that everyone who has met her thus far has been enjoying to the fullest.
Yakov named her in shul yesterday morning. She is named for Nomi's father, z"l - Aviva (means springtime) is a good translation for Julius (his middle name) - and for Nomi's grandmother (Irma's Hebrew name was Rivka). Those of you who knew either of these two people will recognize that given how much she looks like Nomi/Naomi's side of the family, these names seem particularly appropriate. :)
This is just one of many beautiful (or funny) pictures that has already been taken of Aviva. The outfit that she is wearing (thanks Oma!) is the same outfit that Nomi wore home from the hospital. We're all tired, but doing well and recovering nicely.
Lots of love from Pittsburgh,
Nomi/Naomi, Yakov and Aviva

Here are some additional hospital pictures:

While she may have had a challenging time coming into the world, there is no doubt that Daddy helped provide a sense of calm after a thorough cleaning by the pediatrician and the nurses. She's almost stopped crying by this point and is demonstrating her impressive grip.

Aviva's fingers and toes are particularly long and expressive. We've discovered that she likes to splay her toes when she's eating. It's pretty funny and very cute. She is likely to be following her mother's footsteps in picking things up from the floor with those long toes. :)

Our first family picture...she is in there, we promise!

Daddy is such a good cuddler and a great place to take a nap.

I am too...
